My three-year old twins (a boy and girl) opened these presents at the beginning of our Christmas exchange. They immediately wanted to put them on and try them. It did take a few attempts and a couple of falls, but they finally "got the hang of it" and now want to use them often.

I am always on the lookout for structured ways to increase indoor physical activity on rainy days, so we tried the carpet skates. Fantastic concept, poor performance. The children tried them ONCE and did not bother again.
A great first step for my 8 year old who isn't ready for roller skates or blades

We bought 3 pairs of Carpet Slides last year on a whim. They have proved to be a *very* fun, active toy! We have hard wood floors, so I bought these thinking we could use them when we visited Grandma and Grandpa. When our flight got delayed for several hours at the airport, I pulled these out of the bag. They kept the kids actively engaged for over an hour! Best yet, they burned off energy while playing--something my fellow travelers surely appreciated when the kids slept on the plane.
Since then, we've used them numerous times. When we accompanied my husband to a weekend convention, the kids used them in the hotel halls (only during the day!) and in some of the public areas. We've also used them at the park district rec center during 'open play.' They are somewhat comparable to Heelys in style of play/activity level. My kids *love* doing races with each other, or competing to see who has the longest slide. I'll admit that I've had quite a few fun runs on them as well.
Carpet Slides pack up flat so they take up little space; easy enough to pack into the outside pocket of a regular carry-on suitcase.
I recommend them as a great, clean and easy form of active play, appropriate for many age groups. My own kids are 9, 7, and 3 and we've shared them with kids as old as 15 who were just as enthusiastic about them. Heck, my husband and I find them fun!
