Comments about Med Et Al Development Thumbguard Lg (7-15 Yrs.):

We've been using this for about a week and a half, and so far, so good. Our daughter was sucking her thumb on her 20-week ultrasound so we knew we had a deeply ingrained thumbsucker on our hands. We even tried forcing a pacifier on her as a newborn, but around 4 months, she rediscovered her thumb, and it was all over. She's now 4 1/2 years old. To all the parents who are saying their kids get their thumb out of the guard, try using two (not one) bandaids under the guard, overlapping them part way. Put the pad part of the bandaids on the inside of the thumb (where the thumb creases) to create greater resistance to bending the thumb out of the guard. I think the instructions also mention using medical tape. Our daughter was pulling her thumb out, and we'd find her sucking it in the morning with the guard still on. Since we've done this, it's always still on in the morning, and she's doing great. We've not completely broken the habit, but we haven't kept it on her during the day. If this doesn't do the trick, we'll keep it on 24/7, and I'm confident she'll stop. Also if you have any problems with the material against your child's skin, try cutting a piece of panty hose for a sort of fingerless glove to protect direct contact with the guard. Her hand seemed a little red the first night, and my husband came up with this idea. Seemed to do the trick. No more red hand. Good luck!

I'm a mother of 3, my daughter the oldest had started sucking her thumb at the age of 2 we had attempted several times to stop her but the habit was too strong. We tried, band aids, tape...even duct tape, and the nasty nailpolish. 3 weeks ago we order this product...3 days and it was over...she is no longer sucking her thumb. You have to be persistant about kkeping it on, but it works. The only problem we noticed was with the thumb beeing moist so we would blow dry it once in awhile. This product will change you toddlers life!

It's a very good thing cause this way the child can learn to fall asleep without thumbsucking.

unfortunately my daughter 3yrs. ist very stubborn!

she tried so hard to get her thumb out that she has now many wound spots around it.

I still think its better to not even let them suck on their thumbs no matter if it looks cute (my daughter was about 2 months when she started) because afterwards it is sooooo hard to get rid of this habit not just for the parents but even more for the child!

We ordered the medium (5 to 6 years) Thumb Guard. The first day/night was hard for our daughter with the thumb guard, she obviously wanted her thumb. I really think that her wanting to stop sucking her thumb was the main reason this guard worked so well. We could not have done this one or two years ago. I did punch holes in it, as they suggested, for more circulation of air so the thumb would not get so hot. After the first week we did a test run during the day, she did great, telling me when she needed the guard put back on (I also take the thumb guard with me so that if she gets into a stressful situation she asks for her guard and an incident is prevented), and it has been very successful. We are on day 29 for night use only. We did one test run at night this week to see if she would suck her thumb. Yes, I got up several times through the night. She did well, until twilight, then the thumb went in. So I see us using this guard at night for awhile longer. Our little girl was a preemie so the thumb sucking was a natural oral fixation after having all the life saving tubes that entered through her mouth. It will take a little longer for her to break the habit, but we are well on the road to recovery. She just turned 5, and I am very proud of her for making this thumb guard work so well.

my son was able to pull his thumb out no matter how I put it on. The only reason it has been helpful was the threat of wearing it. I probably could have strapped something much less expensive to his hand for the same effect.

We started to use it for my daughter when she was 20 months. We used it for about 6 weeks and it completely broke the habit. She was a thumbsucker only at nighttime. We hesitated to buy because of its price, but we're happy we purchased it. My only problem with the product: it let her thumb moist, but I pocked a few holes in it and the problem solved.

my almost four-year-old has sucked her thumb since day one but over the past few months, we have mostly reduced the habit to bedtime only and in talking with her, we know that she is ready to stop completely, but the habit is so ingrained in her, she couldn't stop on her own. the guards are working wonderfully; after a few days of wearing them 24/7 (even to the park and other outings, taking them off only to wash), we had her wear them only at naptime and bedtime and noticed that she did not try to put her thumb in her mouth, even when she was tired or doing something that normally went hand-in-hand with thumbsucking (being read to or watching a movie, for example). I was worried that she would have trouble falling asleep without thumbsucking and was anticipating a few rough nights, but thankfully it hasn't been a problem.
the ONLY negative to this product is that a small sore has appeared at the base of both her thumbs where the plastic rubs. But, putting band-aids on under the guards has solved that problem.

Toddlers can move the thumb guard if they are really determined.......Therefore, if you don't want to cut the circulation off in the toddler's hand to ensure there is absolutely no way it can be removed...by all means go ahead and purchase it. Lovely bracelet colors though.

I like this product and if you stick with it, it really will stop the thumbsucking. However, my child will complain that the bands are to tight and if I do not make them tight, she can slip them off. I would highly recommend this product and it comes with 2 thumbguard because if you put one on the thumb your child current sucks and not on the other, guess what will happen, your child will start to suck on the other one so use both.

My daughter is 7 and is wearing the thumb guard for about three weeks. She slept without it on the other night and her thumb went right into her mouth. So far if it is on it works, but it seems difficult to break your brain of such a habit. I don't think even a thumb guard can change something that has been a habit for so long. I recommend if you have a thumb sucker, put it on as soon as you can. Break them early!

I wanted to write a review of this product to let all parents know that this is a great product and works! I have been researching this product for over 1 year and hesitated only because of its price. I wish I would have bought it sooner!
I have a 4 1/2 year girl that has sucked her thumb since she was 2 months old. She eventually learned to suck her thumb and place her index finger in her nose at the same time. Fun!
I bought this product with her permission. At first she cried and demanded that I remove it. Within 2 1/2 weeks she is now done sucking her thumb completely! She wore the thumb guard 24 hours a day, swimming, playing in the sand, eating and when writing. It did not stop her activity or limit her in any way.
My only comment or concern about the thumb guard is 1. It left her thumb moist and did leave a few dry blister that I noticed after its removal 2. She was able to pull her thumb out to dry it off and I did catch her a few nights sucking her thumb with it out, but I tighten it up and this stopped.
Great product! Must buy for all thumb suckers!!
                                Thank you for this product!!!
