If you have a boy, DO NOT buy this product. The green pee guard would not stay in place after only one week of use. Who wants to go fishing in a pot of pee 8 times a day. Not me! So we've been forced to use it without the pee guard, but now the pee is leaking all over and under and between any space it can find. YUCK! As if potty training weren't time consuming enough, I now find myself cleaning the potty about 6 to 8 times a day. Heading out to purchase a simpler model as soon as possible. I so wish I had the receipt to this piece of junk! :( I've decided to give it one star, but only because it may possibly work if I ever have a little girl.

I love this potty, I started potty training my son about 4 weeks ago and he didn't like the adult potty. So I went to the store and bought this one and immediately he loved it and started using it. He was potty trained in about 2 weeks and is still loving it.

Comments about Summer Infant Step By Step Potty Training System:

I bought this potty when my son was about 16 months old and I thought is was great because it had so many "novelties". Now that he is 2, and ready for real potty training, I've found it to be a nightmare. Every time he goes number 1, it leaks under the cushion...then under the plastic...staight to the real toilet seat. I found myself having to sanitize his potty seat AND the regular toilet seat every time he went...like 8 times a day! I got rid of it after about 1 week of real potty training and got a plain and simple plastic potty seat without all of the "novelties" and my son likes it just the same.

I bought two of these for my boy/girl twins. It works fine for my daughter but not for my son. The soft seat actually sucks up pee that my be under it on the rim. Even with the pee guard, it is impossible to keep some pee from getting on the rim. I am going to have to throw my son's seat away soon as I cannot get rid of the smell. I have seen the same seat in stores with a hard plastic seat and that would be much better.

This potty is functional and does what it needs to do in training a child to go potty, but the selling feature of a 'soft cushion seat' is an extremely bad idea. This reason alone would cause me not to purchase this potty chair. The cushion was good at first, but after cleaning a few times the seat around the edge began to crack. And now water (from cleaning) and whatever else (uggg....) gets trapped in the crack and pushes out every time our little one sits on it.

Unfortunately after 16 months of use this potty did not work well for us. We should have sent it back long ago, but we never send anything back :) The potty slid all over the bathroom floor but we dealt with it. As my child got older the sliding on the floor really bothered her. The toilet paper roll novelty wore off quickly (the roll doesn't stay on very well either) The fact that the step stool part was underneath and had to be separated from potty was an inconvenience and took up extra space on the bathroom floor to have to large items out. The step stool served no purpose as it is very short (my child is very tall for her age and still couldn't reach to wash hands at sink). Our child could not sit on top of potty when the cover was closed, this was also an inconvenience, especially if she likes to hang out in bathroom while family is getting ready. Our first potty purchased many years ago for our older children had a flat cover that when closed served as the step stool and we loved it. They were trained by 19 months to 2yrs. Our youngest is almost 3 and does not like to sit on this potty (perhaps if they make it with a flat top and non-skid bottom, i think that will work! a choice of colors would be nice too)

The potty is wonderful! I really like the fact that it has a toilet paper holder and a wipe dispenser attached. Really helps to teach children to wipe and makes it easy for them to do so. The seat is very soft and comfortable and the whole toilet cleans very easily. The only cons I could think of are some people may want a musical potty or a potty for travel and this isn't musical and not a travel potty.

My son is 20 months old and as soon as he saw a toilet his size he was so excited. He practices sitting on it, putting toilet paper in it, he even makes his own noises for number 2! He has not used it yet I got it early so he would be used to it and know what it is for. Nothing has broken yet like other people reviewed. I haven't put the urine guard on yet since he isn't using it and I read that other people had theirs break off. We do show him that number two goes in the bowl using it from his diaper and it has not stained yet.

This product is poorly designed and manufactured. [...] It is impossible to clean, and the split seat absorbs odors: a horror to have in the house. We'll replace it as soon as possible with a better training toilet.

This thing is GREAT! I love that it contains it's own toilet paper roll, makes it feel more like a real toilet. I had previously tried another potty and my daughter refused to even sit on it but she LOVES this one. Its simple desighn makes it un-intimidating and easy to use. My 2yo started using it even before we actualy started "training". The only downside I've found is that it does tend to slide around and needs a mat under it or to be placed against somthing solid to hold it in place.

Comments about Summer Infant Step By Step Potty Training System:

I got this because I was tired of lifting my little man (he's 2)up onto the big potty. He immediately took to it as his Big Boy Potty. That was great. He uses it and can touch the floor with his feet. The lid is great and the extra base is helpful as a stool for hands washing. While it does work my main issues are with its construction and appearance after only a few uses. The pee shield for little boys broke off after only 2 uses. When he sat down his heiny hit the sheild and he popped it off. I thought no problem, but it actually broke the seat anchor underneath that holds the shield in place. It is basically a plastic pop rivet into the soft foam seat. The plastic brok so I had to use super glue to put it back on. This means it cannot be removed for any reason now.
It does stain. I clean it out every other use and that is about 4 times a day. The hard plastic container is fine but the soft foam seat has yellowing after only 3 weeks. The toilet paper holder is more of a distraction than actually useful. I think all parents who have a roll of TP next to their toilet can say a toddler and TP equals a big mess. The wet wipes container is only good with Kandoo Wipes. I like the contenelle ones but they are too big to fit in the container. Both of these items are more distractions than anything. I would buy it again because it is better than anything else I have seen.

Comments about Summer Infant Step By Step Potty Training System:

Moms, Grandparents .. and just anyone that wants to help in potty training the toddler. This potty is sturdy and my grandson feels comfortable using it. We tried others and he did not like them, always had a different reason. By the second day he only had one mistake.
