I bought this to use for my toddler (18 mo) who is a very picky eater. So far, she loves the recipes. I also have a 5 mo old, and I am going to start using it for her food also. Besides recipes, this book also gives great general information about your child (age-specific).

The pictures make this food look very fun and tasty. But most meals are a bit complicated to make (uncommon ingredients) or my toddler just doesn't like them. They never look as good in real life, but I'm no chef. :) Some of the recipes my husband and I like for us and I will continue to try the recipes for my little boy and baby girl on the way. I do like how the book is put together. Excellent descriptions and explanations.

From infants and up. My child is only one year old now but I know I will be using this cookbook for years to come. I would highly recommend it.

This book is a great guide. The recipes are easy to follow. I do think it is more designed for someone who wants to cook every meal for their baby form scratch. It is a great reference though and my 8 month old has liked all the recipes I have tried so far.

I wish I would have gotten this cookbook earlier. I decided to get it when I was running out of ideas for meals and snacks for my one year old; I found myself just using the same meals. What I really like about the book is the simplicity of the recipes, which makes it easy to add or substitute ingredients. I also like that a lot of the recipes I can make in large quantities and freeze for later, this helps with our busy schedule.

I really got excited about this book but since trying a few recipes on my 2 year and 2 month son, he has rejected it each time. I found that the taste of the creamy tomato soup would be better with garlic and the chicken chow mein asked for too much sugar snap peas and too little chicken. The portions of the ingredients are not clearly specified in certain cases and it gives me the impression that the author should have tried these recipes before putting it in print as it needs a bit more fine tuning especially for someone like me. My husband seems to like it. I guess this book is not for everybody. But you could fine tune some recipes yourself and get some good ideas from the book. I'll keep trying.

Okay-I am a terrible cook. I HATE to cook-but this first meals cookbook is awesome. It actually makes me want to cook. Annabel Karmel has such cute ideas with food. And this book has given me so many great ways to make healthy food interesting for my kids. The recipes are easy to follow and everything. This book is really for everyone-both the parents and the kids. It's awesome because it has sections by age where it tells you everything you need to know about your baby's needs throughout their young life from weaning your baby until 7 years old. And it's so neat to have such a hands on approach to what your baby is getting. There are lots of fun colorful pictures and it's laid out very well without a whole lot of extra chapters. A lot of people write books to listen to themselves prattle on, this is not the case. I will by any book written by Annabel Karmel based on how well she wrote this book. And I think it was very well priced for the content. I think I'm going to buy a second one and send it to my sister-in-law. I really like the way OneStepAhead choses good quality products to sell. I have rarely been disappointed by anything in their magazine.

I LOVED This book. from directions on making, storing, and using basic purees, to making 2 and 3 step foods and snacks all the way up to toddlers and young children. This was the ONLY book that I owned or needed when I made food for my daughter, and now I am starting to use it again with my son. I LOVED this book. it was an excellent reference and I loved the recipes. I had people commenting all the time that my daughter would eat ANYTHING and that her food smelled wonderful, and better than any babyfood they had ever seen. I loved making delicious and fresh meals for her, and we really saved money. It is amazing how much puree you can get from a $1 bunch of carrots and other veggies as well! Great for allowing you to control your own ingredients and your own textures and thicknesses. I love this book! Many colorful and inspiring photos!

These recipes are not loved by all kids - even though she professes that they are. I've made the recipes for 2 kiddos (18 mos and 24 mos) and neither one will eat any of them. They do not take only the time stated to prepare - they will take at least double. I love to cook and know how to follow a recipe. I'm like to follow Rachel Ray and Wolfgang Puck recipes, but Anabel Karmel's recipes - as in this book - are incomplete. One recipe in particular, vegetable fritters, lists an onion as an ingredient. It tells you to saute it - that's it. Not if you need to dice it, slice or quarter it. It doesn't tell you when, how or even if to add it to the recipe - only to saute it! This is not the only recipe in which this happens. The recipes might be tasty enough for a toddler, but are much too bland for an adult to enjoy. So when your little one refuses to eat, don't count on enjoying this as your meal - the portions are too small anyway - as expected.

My son is 6 months old and got the green light from the ped to start solids at 4 months. I ordered this book months ago due to the terrific reviews. Another book, Super Baby Food, was highly recommended (which I also bought). I also received Cooking for Baby (from [...]) as a gift. Of these three books, the First Meals book is the most concise and clear. The illustrations are terrific and the recipes are simple yet provide a varied menu for my son. I felt that the Super Baby Food book had more detail about timing of foods, order of introduction, food handling, etc., but now I almost feel that I know too much. Going forward, if I were to recommend one of the three, I would absolutely recommend THIS book as a MUST HAVE. I have been making my son's food for 2 1/2 months now with a lot of success!
