We live in a split level so there are stairs all over the place in our house. We ordered two of the regular gates and a bunch of extensions to turn our living room into one huge play area for our daughter. The gates are so simple to install and don't interfere with your baseboard no matter what the height. The gate can be easily taken down from the wall if you have company over (there is a piece that stays attached to the wall and the gate itself just clips out) and you can turn and lock the individual pieces in any position you want. The auto-close feature works great but you can also easily choose to leave the door open by extending it back all the way. The doors open both in our out which is very convenient as well.

I really like the design and how easy this item is to put together. Unfortunately, it wasn't packaged well enough for shipping. The main part arrived in one piece, but one of the two extensions arrived with a broken corner. OSA quickly shipped out a new one, but it too had the same broken corner. We just wrapped it together to get a working wood stove gate and not go through the hassle of returns again.

Unfortunately this extension was not compatable with the hearth gate i bought on this site 6 years ago, and I wish it had stated so in the description.
I bought a hearth gate from this site when my first son first started walking a little more than 6 years ago. Now we are in a different house with a larger hearth and my youngest is just walking. I came to this website, found what looked like the same hearthgate (except mine didn't have the auto-close door), and ordered three 24" extensions and one 9" extension. Well, they don't connect to the one I have and now I have to pay the shipping in order to return them (heavy) and apparently OneStepAhead doesn't even carry the extentions to the one I bought here previously.

The extension is very easy to add into the existing gate which allows for very quick set up while still offering superior strength.

This product allows me to close off an uneven area. The gate auto closes so it is always closed. Children can't get through.

I needed the extra panels to attach to the auto-close configure gate set. Two of the extra panels that I ordered arrived damaged in shipping.
I called One Step Ahead's customer service and they were fantastic. They had UPS pick up the damaged sections and sent out new sections. It didn't take long and there was no cost to me.
The sections attached easily and are easy to move to the position you need. I feel it is also very sturdy.
The only downside is that the spaces in between the rods are just wide enough for my son to slip his knees through and he gets stuck. (He's 19 months old) He stands against the gate and squats so his knees stick though and as he squats down, the bars squeeze his thighs enough so he can't get unstuck without assistance. Thankfully he does not do this very often.
I would not recommend using this to leave child unattended. (For example, put child in playpen if you have to use the bathroom).
I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend this.
