This was really cheaply made. Thin plastic parts and the colors just look cheap. It does not resemble the picture at all. Once you put it together it does not shut off. I returned it and told them I was very surprised they would sell something this low quality!

Comments about One Step Ahead Activity Mushroom Toddler Toy:

OK, if I had read the other reviews before purchasing this item, I would never have gotten it. As with many of the other reviewers have mentioned, this toy makes sounds at random times throughout the day/night without anyone prompting it. My 1 year old was done playing with it at 5pm the other night and at 11pm the music started going off. There is no on/off switch or volume control and we live in an apartment so at 11pm while we are in the bedroom, we can hear this toy make noise. We have resorted to covering it with 2 heavy blankets at naptime and bedtime, but how annoying is that?! I won't return the thing because we have had it now for a month and we don't have any of the packaging, but I am just about to give up on it and take the batteries out. It's a shame because my daughter does like to play with it. It's just really poorly designed.

As I stated in my previous review the mushroom has a mind of its own coming on at the most inconvenient hours. The customer service department graciously sent me another unit. It worked fine for a couple of weeks and now we have the same problem with it coming on without any interaction. It happened again at three in the morning. Fortunately, I have a handy husband who installed an on and off switch and solved the problem. In my opinion, it should be manufactured with an on and off switch in the first place.

Comments about One Step Ahead Activity Mushroom Toddler Toy:

Purchased on sale for half price. i'm glad i didn't pay full price as i feel it is not worth that. It's a bit flimsy and lacking important feature for full price. I bought it for my 9 month old who loves to stand and play. I also have a 3 year old and it is a great toy for both of them to play together. i find it a bit unsteady for my 9 month old as she tries to hold onto it standing i'm sure it'll be better as she gets a bit older & steadier on her feet. The one thing i do not like is that it does not have an on/off switch and/or volume control. I also think it should have all the letters in the alphabet somehow instead of just the vowels. Or all numbers 0 - 9 and no letters. Just my opinion. Overall i'm happy with it and glad i purchased

As most of the other reviewers have said, this thing does not have an on/off switch, and the noises go off constantly and with no human interaction. I kind of think it might be possessed! It's extremely annoying and frustrating.

It is not stable, topples over all the time, and the balls and plastic blocks are constantly flying everywhere. My son will try to pull himself up on it and the entire thing falls over on him. It is not safe.

I'm really disappointed with this product, and with One Step Ahead, I expect better quality. The quality of this toy is that of something purchased at a dollar store.

Comments about One Step Ahead Activity Mushroom Toddler Toy:

We bought this for our 9 month old granddaughter. She was immediately attracted to it and seems to like it. It is about the perfect height and fairly stable, so should work out well. She has only had it for one day now.

Sounds are a bit odd (for adults) as they seem to be in a foreign language. Unit is by a Spanish company and made in China. Not sure it matters to the baby, but worth noting.

Putting it together was simple and intuitive. Only issue was that I needed to trim excess plastic in a few places on two pieces.

One other point that we will need to assess - one of the sounds seemed to play at random times without anyone touching the unit. There is no on/off switch to control this. I believe it is relayed to the carousel unit on top that may not fully unwind at first and then continues to turn very gradually. In any case, if just a short time period issue, it will be ok. If it plays randomly all day/night, then a problem.

Comments about One Step Ahead Activity Mushroom Toddler Toy:

As a previous reviewer noted, this toy does not have an on/off button and plays at unexpected times like in the middle of the night. It is rather disconcerting. However, my grandson does like to play with it and it does have varied activities. I would suggest to the designers that the ball drop should be on the same side of the mushroom where the chute is to make it easier to retrieve the balls and put them into the snail. It would also help if it were a bit more stable.

Comments about One Step Ahead Activity Mushroom Toddler Toy:

This mushroom is EXTREMELY unstable. Luckily, it's also quite small & light, so doesn't do much damage unless your baby doesn't catch himself well, yet. There's no ON/OFF switch, & it does occasionally just start playing music, which is disconcerting; there's also no volume control. Some of the features "speak" to your baby, but I have no idea what they're saying, or what language it's meant to be. The little blocks are very cheap & don't fit well, & the piano keys all do the same thing (ie, they don't make individual sounds). You apply the stickers yourself, & ours came faded & they tore as we peeled them off the sheet.

All that said, my baby thinks it's great fun, though he does shy away once he's tipped it over a few times. There's lots of movement, color & tactile feedback, & I think he'll really enjoy the ball drop once he's a bit older.

Bottom line: if I'd seen it in a store & gotten to examine it, I probably wouldn't have bought it, but my baby enjoys it enough, I'm not returning it, either.

This toy was not as sturdy as I expected for the price. Also, we never found an on/off button for the sound and the toy seemed to play without any human initiation - sometimes in the middle of the night! I would not recommend it. The part the children like best is putting the balls in and watching them fall to be retrieved below.

Comments about One Step Ahead Activity Mushroom Toddler Toy:

My little girl loves the mushroom, especially putting the balls in the snail and then running around to see them roll out of the front door. It keeps her busy and is very entertaining. The only negatives are that it is extremely light weight and falls over, or in the case of a rambunctious 17 month old, gets knocked over, very easily. Although it does encourage standing, as the magazine description indicates, I wouldn't let a toddly-toddler play with it unattended. It certainly wouldn't be helpful in keeping your baby from falling, if they were to lose their balance and grab at the 'shroom to stabilize themselves. It would most definitely fall over on them....still, it's lightweight, so of it did it would probably only scare them. At any rate, it's fun to watch her reaction and excitement with the various activities. The only thing else that I can add, in my opinion, I believe that it should probably be priced a little less than it is, by about 1/2...
