The First Years Cabinet Latches May Not Prevent Access by Children

On December 2, 2010, we, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, are announcing the voluntary recall of The First Years® American Red Cross cabinet swing locks with item number Y7181. The latches are mounted on cabinets or drawers to help prevent young children from gaining access and were sold two per blister card.

An American Red Cross logo and "cabinet swing lock" are printed on the package. "American Red Cross" is molded onto the front of the lock. A date code is printed on the bottom of the back of the package and on the back side of each latch just above the connection point. The product designation is:

The recalled item was sold between December 2008 and September 2010. You are receiving this letter as our records indicate you may have purchased the affected item.

Recall & Return Information

The installed latches can break and children could gain access to contents of a cabinet, posing the risk of exposure to hazardous items.

Please IMMEDIATELY advise your store(s) to remove all affected products from retail sale and display and contact retail customer service at 1-563- 875-5628 to set-up and receive authorization for your product return. Upon calling, you will receive your RA # and form with further information about returning your products.

In order to fully comply with the recall even if these items are no longer in stock, you are legally obligated to display the attached safety recall poster and recall information. Please place the poster and consumer information in a conspicuous location where your customers will see it.

Additional Consumer Information

Consumers should immediately remove the latches from cabinets, record the date code on the back of each latch and contact The First Years to obtain a $5 coupon toward the purchase of another Learning Curve Brands product. When removing the latches, consumers should take special care to store hazardous items out of reach of children.
