We put this gate at the top of our stairs and were disappointed with it. The gate is poor construction and it would not take much for a strong toddler to possibly break the spindles. This product also does not include pieces to be installed against drywall, only wood.

This is a great gate for those who don't want the look (or need the bulk) of the large, molded plastic or metal gates. The gate itself works very well, and I'm partial to the "classic" look. However, the hardware isn't very east to use and requires some fiddling, which is touch while holding a squirmy baby. The eye hook seems to be a larger gauge than it should be, so you have to squeeze the release by the top and bottom, and then force it over the eye...a little difficult to do also while being sure the bottom hook stays in place in the bottom eye.

Installed at the bottom of the stairs. The gate doesn't get set at a specific width so each time you go up and down the stairs you have to pull it to the specific width and then try to latch it. Almost impossible to do with one hand, which is usually the case because you have the baby in the other hand!

The way the gate moves back and forth is "rough", not smooth. The clip to secure it is very hard to use; however the bottom clip secures easily and is doing the job for now, with our 8 month old. The construction is light weight.

we use these gates at the top and bottom of our stairs. Although it takes a while to master closing it with one hand, it really is a good gate. The fact that you can remove it totally is a plus as with the tension gates you have to put it up all over again (tightening from scratch). I put this gate up in 10 minutes.

This product installed faily easily but is very difficult to open and close due to the latch mechanism. It is also not very sturdy and not really sutiabel for stairways due to the way it swings open & closed.

There are alot of better options.

Leaps and Bounds Response: Please make sure you follow the manufacturer's instructions. If installing over a stairway you must install so gate does not open out over the stairway. Also, when opening the gate you must first unlock the locking latch and pull up which then allows you to open the gate. My wife and I purchased 2 of these gates (plus 1 of the larger ones to corral a room). I installed the first one on top of the stairs today. I'll replace it with something else. Disappointed in the quality of hardware for the money, not sturdy, difficult to use and impossible with one hand. Glad I did this before my son started crawling. Now I can find another option.

I was excited to purchase two of these gaits, given its price point and description, however we were sadly disappointed upon its arrival. we had intended to use this gate for stairs, however, felt that it was poorly contructed. the gate is light weight and flimsy. we felt it would break within a week of use in such a high traffic area. We returned both of them. I would suggest using this for a low traffic area where there are no serious safety issues.

We sent the gate back because it was not sturdy at all. It is called a stair gate but I am assuming only the bottom of the stairs. The kids could easily push it off the wall and fall down.

I used these gates at another house when my now 3-yr-old was a baby and now I have 3 of them installed at our new house for our now-crawling infant. I use them on the stairs and like them because once they're up - they're up - no re-installing each time you pass through.

This gate is great for the stairs. The only thing I don't like is the closure. It is a bit difficult to close one handed. I bought this one for the top of my stairs to keep the hallway clear (I can swing the gate out over the stairs by the wall) but I'm a little sorry I didn't get the clear paneled one that they offer. I have the clear panel at the bottom of my steps and we LOVE it. It is so easy to use one handed and the baby can't grab anything to shake it. If I had it to do over again, for the same money I'd buy two of those and nix this one.

It's a little harder to open and close than most gates, but that's why I got it. You have to press hard and hook or unhook. I love it!!! My son is almost 2 years old and hasn't figured this out like he has the hands-free gate.
