We have only had the gate for about two weeks now but so far it is working well and keeps our 10 month old out of the kitchen. We needed the elongate and two extensions. The only down side about the opening is that it can only be installed on either side of the wall you install it to, not the middle as I had hoped. Other then that minor detail it has worked well for us.

The bottom of the gate does not fully connect to the wall on the gate side, making it seem unstable when the gate is open. Also, it would be nice if it had a handle of some sort to open and shut, instead you have to pull out a screw that is on a spring to release the locking mechanism. When I pull it shut, I have to spend a few seconds to make sure it is actually locked shut. It doesn't always click without force.

This gate was the only one we found that was long enough (with one extension) to block off the kitchen area in our very open floorplan. Our 18-month-old is quite a climber, and has gotten adventurous enough to get knives off very high counters, and tall enough to reach hot pans on the stove from the floor, so some kind of gate was a must.

The Elongate had fairly easy-to-understand instructions. For our purposes, we did have to cut out small areas of baseboard to make the brackets fit properly, so that was annoying but unavoidable. The fact that ours had to be installed at an angle made it a little more difficult to get the brackets aligned, but again, we could work around that. Once installed, the walk-through door works nicely for adults, while still being difficult enough that our youngest can't open it himself (that would kind of defeat the purpose of the gate, after all). Even with two older children climbing over the gate, and the youngest shaking it when he gets mad that he can't get in the kitchen, it seems sturdy and built to last...definitely not like the cheap doorway gates we're used to using.

Overall, I would recommend this gate, and would purchase it again myself. I do think it's better suited for use on bottom stairs or other straight-across areas without wall trim, but we were able to make it work anyway.

We converted our dining room into a play room so we had a large opening to enclose to secure the room. One elongate and two extensions mounted easily and securely. It is a little noisy when it gets bumped as metal hits metal.

This has been a good gate. We have a wide space and needed to seperate our dogs from the chldren. The dogs jump up on it and it is still standing strong. Easy to open gate (for adults)

We chose this product to use across an extra-wide hallway about a foot before the top of the stairs. The stairs themselves have an irregular L-shaped opening that no gate would fit. We used one extension for a total of about 70 inches. It took my husband about two hours to assemble and screw mount it. We downloaded the full instructions from the KidCo website. It was neither remarkably hard nor remarkably easy to do. We also contacted KidCo for the step plates to help prevent tripping over the bottom bar as we walk through the gate. We bought two since the bar is exposed from both directions.

We like that the gate is made of coated metal and seems quite sturdy. Our 9 month old crawler/cruiser will put it to the test when she discovers it--she likes to shake things. We also like that we can open it with one hand, necessary when carrying the child in the other!

The reason we gave it four stars is because the opening seems narrow, which will be a problem since this gate will be up for the next several years since we hope to have another child relatively soon. Also, we couldn't put the opening on the side of the hallway we wanted because some door moulding got in the way of the swinging gate. Therefore, using the gate is awkward. We will just have to get used to it, though, since there were literally no other options for our situation.

I was a little nervous after reading mixed reviews, but needed a gate wide enough that would mount to the wall for a wide opening at the top of my stairs so decided to give it a try. We were able to get this up with little issue. [...] SO the gate is up, it is strong, works great, and easy to use. our opening is 59 inches wide and this gate fits perfectly and feels very sturdy. We give five stars to the Kidco gate and 5 stars to One Step Ahead!!!

not our favorite gate, but necessary ffor our wide opening. The locking device is a bolt that sits in a plastic receptacle that must be placed precisely on the wall. Tthe bolt can stick out a bit and whack our toddler in the head as it opens. when stretched to the max, gate is wobbly. we'll see if adding an extension helps.

Our baby boy took had a fall down our stairs, and since we put this gate up, the little guy doens't even go near the stairs because he knows he can't get past!

We use this gate with the gate extender to cover an 80 inch space between our living room and dining room. It works great. I love that the door swings both ways.

We have a large family room and office area...with a curious toddler we needed to gate off the computer/office. This gate has withstood my 2 year old standing on the bottom and pulling on the door. He is unable to get it open and we've had it installed for about 1 month with 1 extension. Perfect for our needs.

We use this gate at the top of one stair leading out of our living room. The openning is very wide and it was not easy finding a gate that would fit. The gate was easy to install and works well. It is not as sturdy as I'd like (due to the wide openning and no support point in the middle). I don't know how happy I'd be with it if our openning was any larger (it is a 61 in openning). The lock on the door is easy to open but you need to have it placed perfectly for it to close correctly. Over it is a good gate though.
