My First School Backpack

$24.95 - $29.95

Our goal: design a kids' backpack even daycare "students" can manage independently. The result: this rugged, rummage-proof backpack! It opens from the top-not the side like others-so everything's easy to find. Holds a day's worth of gear, yet it's a breeze to carry, thanks to padded, adjustable straps. With six pockets to teach organization, including a water bottle cubby inside the lid. Great for daycare and school, and such high-quality, kids will use this backpack for years. Imported. Designed by OneStepAhead! For even greater organization, grab our Tidy Totes and clip-on Lunch Bag (each sold separately).

Personalize it! Complete options below for embroidered personalization. Please note: The last name will be represented by the larger initial in the middle (i.e. if your initials are ABC, enter them as ACB.) Personalized items can't be returned unless the product is defective.)

  • Awesome backpack

  • One step ahead is the best place for me to buy items for my daughter. Cadence is 9 with Down syndrome... A lot of items you offer still help me out even being her age. My only wish is that on certain items there was not age or weight limit... One step ahead, thank you so much... I still need you!

  • Hard to use

  • My 5 year old has a very difficult time getting her folder in and out of this bag. The top is difficult to keep open and the net pocket on the inside catches her folder. Her three ring binder comes home daily and it is very frustrating getting it in and out.

  • Really Durable

  • I bought this backpack for my son when he was entering first grade. He's now going into fourth grade, and I finally need to replace it. It's very well made, and is padded in the shoulder straps and the portion that lays against his back. It's big enough to hold all of his folders and books, as well as a jacket, but doesn't hang down too far. There is a chest strap that helps prevent the weight of the pack from pulling the straps off of his shoulders. The reflective piping is very visible. The large elasticized pocket on the front is big enough to stuff his hat and mittens into, and being able to clip the matching lunch bag on the front is handy too. It makes it a little awkward, but at least it makes it home from school (It has a handle and a shoulder strap too, if you prefer). My son is really hard on his things,(he regularly carries rocks home with his books), we didn't have any problems with the backpack until halfway through the 2nd year of use, when one of the plastic pieces that the straps pass through to adjust the length, broke. I folded the strap over the intact piece and taped it together with duct tape and it survived another year and a half until the buckle on the other strap broke in a place where it was unusable. My only complaint about the product is that the mesh pocket inside the main compartment catches his folders and books when we put them inside, which is annoying when you're trying to put last minute items inside. The top flips completely open to see what's inside, so you don't really need separate compartments. The zipper pocket on the front is large enough for pencils, rulers, etc. and the zipper pocket in the interior of the top that's designed to hold a water bottle is heavyweight plastic which protects the other contents of the bag from drips and condensation. Overall, my son and I both love this backpack!
